According to the latest news from the Australian Ministry of Industry on March 18, the proportion of renewable energy generation in the national electricity market in 2021 will account for nearly one-third (32.2%), and this proportion will further jump to 35.8% in the fourth quarter.

Australia's total renewable energy generation in 2021 will increase by 23% compared to 2020, providing a total of 72.5 TWh of electricity.

More than a quarter of Australian households currently use rooftop solar panels to generate electricity. 2021 marks the fifth consecutive year of record-breaking installations of 380,000 new rooftop solar systems with a combined capacity of 3.2 gigawatts across the country.

Up to now, the total rooftop solar capacity in Australia has reached 17 billion watts, and there are more than 3 million rooftop solar systems.

Investment in renewable energy has maintained an upward trend over the past two years. In 2021, Australia is planning to build large-scale wind and solar power plants with a total capacity of 29 gigawatts, including Australia's largest wind farm - MacIntyre Wind Farm in Queensland.

Industry, Energy and Emissions Reduction Minister Angus Taylor said: "Australia generated $7.4 billion in renewable energy investment last year, or $284 per capita. This puts us ahead of Canada, Germany, Japan, France, China on a per capita basis. and the United States and other countries.

“With record levels of renewable energy projects coming online, the Morrison government will focus on three areas of energy policy: ensuring grid stability; keeping prices low; and emissions continuing to fall. A balance between on-demand and reliable power supply.”
