Compared with traditional chemical power sources, vanadium batteries have obvious advantages, and their main advantages are as follows:

1. High power and large capacity: the power only depends on the size of the stack, the capacity depends on the volume of the electrolyte, and the design is very flexible;

2. High efficiency, the charge-discharge energy conversion efficiency of vanadium batteries is as high as 75%, much higher than 45% of lead-acid batteries, and the DC-to-DC energy efficiency can reach 80%, while lead-acid batteries are only 60%;

3. Long service life. At present, the vanadium battery module with the longest running time in the commercial demonstration of VRB PowerSystem in Canada has been in normal operation for more than 9 years, with a charge-discharge cycle life of more than 18,000 times, much higher than the 1,000 times of lead-acid batteries.

4. The response speed is fast. The vanadium battery stack is full of electrolyte and can be started in an instant. It only takes 0.02s to switch between the charge and discharge states during operation, and the response speed is 1ms. It is very beneficial to balance the power supply.

6. High safety, VRB has no potential explosion or fire hazard.

7. Low cost, in addition to ion membrane, vanadium battery components are mostly cheap carbon materials and engineering plastics, which are rich in material sources and easy to recycle.
